A foreigner who plans to stay over 90 days from the date he/she enters Korea.
A person who has lost his/her Korean citizenship to obtain a foreign citizenship or a foreigner who was born in Korea and has been granted residential status, yet plans to stay in Korea for 90 days or longer from the sojourn date.
Exemptions - The following foreigners are exempt from alien registration.
Diplomats, government officials, agreement personnel and their families (A - 1 A - 2 A - 3)
People who are engaged in diplomatic, industrial, or military affairs and their family, and foreigners approved by the Korean Minister of Justice to be exempt from alien registration.
Canadian citizens who plan to stay in Korea for 6 months or less and are engaged in the following activities → Culture and Arts (D-1), Religion (D-6), Visiting or Joining Family (F-1), Accompanying Spouse (F-3), Miscellaneous (G-1)
Alien Registration Period
A foreigner who plans to stay in Korea for 90 days or longer → Within 90 days of his/her entrance date
A foreigner who has been granted sojourn status or changed the authorized status → (Immediately) upon receiving the approval
Foreigners who do not register their alien status within the periods may be subject to penalties.
